Over 20 Years Experience
Karl has been a leader in secondary education for over 20 years. Prior to founding Smart MAT, Karl was the National Director of Improvement and Curriculum at Star Academies.
During Karl’s 5 years at Star Academies, the Trust grew to over 30 academies nationwide with many performing in the top 1% of schools nationally.
UK Coverage
We work with schools across the country. We provide both remote and onsite support.
Karl’s breadth of experience includes the roles of Regional Director for the East of England and Deputy CEO of a large MAT.

Karl has successfully driven school improvement in range of schools across the country. As a Trust leader, he has overseen improvement from special measures to good. Karl has achieved Ofsted Outstanding grading in a wide range of settings, both as a school leader and a Trust Director.

Our performance review and diagnostics make use of our high-quality dashboard, Smart View. We bring together all aspects of each school’s performance in our leading interactive dashboard. We benchmark the KPIs against the latest national standards and provide a fully comprehensive diagnostic report.

Our Smart MAT Partners have access to our data dashboards which translate the macro to the micro. We cover national benchmarks, Trust performance, school dashboards and drill down to subject level including pupil profiles. Our dashboards cover Early Years to Post 16 education.
